MCA is a sponsor of the Downtown Meadville Summer Concert Series. The concerts are held at Diamond Park in the summer on Thursdays beginning with June 30th, ending with a concert on August 4th. Performances start at 7:00PM and include a variety of music from bluegrass to gypsy jazz. Rain location is the Unitarian Church sanctuary. MCA also sponsors a Kids Area that include activities such as face painting, hula hooping, crafts and much more!

Second Saturday Community Market:

Once again, MCA will sponsor the celebration of all things local at the Market House Square in Meadville. Visitors can browse the wares of community vendors and enjoy local foods, live music, and family activities.

At the Second Saturday Community Market, held every second Saturday during the summer, local artisans set up tables to promote and sell their work. MCA hosts a “Kids Only” table each time with a special craft. Second Saturday features a different theme for each month, such as “Spring Celebration” for May, “Healthy Living” for June, “Creative Process” for July, “Kids Day” for August, and “The Harvest Market” for September. Entertainment, such as musicians, dancers, hula hoopers, balloon sculptures, face painting are provided at the events.

The Market runs from 9 am – 2 pm each 2nd Saturday of May – September. For event updates, vendor applications, and more information, visit our Facebook page here.

Housing Authority:

MCA and the Meadville Housing Authority have shared an Allegheny College AmeriCorps Vista worker who directed a program that provided after school art programming to low-income children who lived in federally subsidized housing. This partnership enabled children to experience the arts in a familiar setting, as well as “expand horizons” to the possibilities just outside their door.

MCA maintains a close relationship with student volunteers from Allegheny College. It finds the college to be a very useful resource by way of the Bonner and Davies programs, which offer student intern volunteers to engage closely with MCA through their dedication to community service. Bonners and Davies, as well as other welcomed community members, keep the mission and vision of MCA alive by illuminating its presence in Meadville and supporting events centered on local arts.

Creative Expressions of Art, located in our dance studio, is an afterschool therapeutic program directed by Whisper Romeo and Debra Barnhart.  CEA takes the approach which the visual arts, drama, poetry, creative movement, and music, is used in service of personal growth and healing.  The emphasis is on the process of creating art rather than just the end product.
